ART OF MEDITATION

Practice Series & Refuge Retreats

with Lisa Genki Gibson & Brooke Teisui McNamara

The Art of Meditation Practice Series and Refuge Retreats are an opportunity for you to come home to your life, anchored in the practice of sitting meditation, the wisdom of ancient and modern teachings, and a growing community of wholehearted practitioners. With guidance from Lisa Genki Gibson and Brooke Teisui McNamara, senior monks in the Soto Zen lineage of Diane Musho Hamilton Roshi, these offerings will accompany you throughout the year to awaken to the vastness of who you are, and to enact this fullness and compassion in your daily life.

Practice Series

The Art of Meditation Practice Series are 1-hour weekly practice sessions (Tuesdays) of meditation, interpersonal practice and study, held seasonally over the course of 11 weeks.

Refuge Retreats

The Refuge Retreats are seasonal half-day retreats (Sundays) designed to go deeper into the practices of meditation, embodiment, interpersonal practice and Zen study.

~ All sessions and retreats are held online via Zoom. ~

Art of Meditation Practice Series are a space to directly discover the truth of who you are, and to manifest this insight naturally and uniquely. Each week we meet for one brief but potent hour online. Together we meditate for 30 minutes, and spend the other 30 minutes exploring teachings, discussion, and connection around the profound, simple, and wild practice of meditation.

Art of Meditation is anchored in practices and perspectives from the Zen tradition, and also includes explorations in interpersonal skills. We look forward to offering a warm, strong container for you to come practice meditation in community with us. To sit down together in this practice of intimate embrace and release ~ simply sitting as our whole selves.

The seasonal Refuge Retreats are half-day deep dives into the practice of coming home to yourself. These retreats are anchored in sitting meditation practice, in addition to embodiment, interpersonal development, creative exploration, and the potent wisdom of key Zen teachers and texts.

You will have the opportunity to meet 1-1 with Brooke and Lisa for additional guidance and support around your practice questions during these retreats. With the intention of supporting you to realize and manifest wisdom and compassion in your own lives, each retreat will have a different theme connected to the season and to the current context.

“In wonder
return to the journey,
avail yourself of the path
and walk ahead.

In light there is darkness;
where it operates
no traces remain.”
